About the NNCO

his year sees the 21st anniversary of the founding of the NNCO by Janet Bryant-Heron who has just been made the company’s Honourary President. Over the years there have been many happy productions of the great works of the operatic repertoire. Like many other companies, NNCO has been been struck by a shortage of men. However, this did not deter the redoubtable ladies of the company who mounted a first class production of Puccini’s Sister Angelica at the Auden Theatre, Holt in April. Susie Self and Stephen Miles were brought on board as Musical Director and Stage Director respectively. They brought with them the combined knowledge and experience of ┬álifetimes spent in the professional opera and musical theatre worlds.

The company has decided to be first in to celebrate the centenary year of Benjamin Britten with his delightful comedy Albert Herring. Performances will be in April 2012 at the Auden Theatre. This is a challenging piece but with great musical rewards, and the company is pulling all the stops out to find new members who would like to fill the roster of the thirteen roles. There are great characters contained within this gem of a piece: Lady Billows, the pseudo aristocratic snob; Florence, her busybody housekeeper; Sid and Nancy, the young lovers with attitude; Albert, the mummy’s boy trying to cut the apron strings; Mum, the harridan; Miss Wordsworth, the flustered schoolteacher; the Mayor; the Vicar; the Policeman; the Kids in the street. All these characters are deliciously drawn in a libretto by Eric Crozier and it is hoped to double cast the opera. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings in Holt from October with some Sunday afternoon rehearsals from January onwards.
Why not come and meet the company at an all day workshop on October 23rd 2011 run by Susie and Stephen? For more details please contact Stephen Miles on 01328878364 or email miles.s.j@btinternet.com
Keep a look out for news. It’s all happening in North Norfolk!

I have only been a member of NNCO for 5 months but I would just like to say that it is a joy to be part of the company. I have been warmly welcomed and enjoyed every moment of the preparation and performances of Suor Angelica in April of this year. It is such a privilege to be in a company with Directors Susie Self and Stephen Miles who not only bring an air of excellence to the company with their level of commitment and expertise, but who also make it a very warm and enjoyable place to be.

    Autum Concerts: West Runton & Holt 28 & 29 September 2012
We have just enjoyed a lovely weekend full of our favourite things…singing, performing and enjoying being together as a company. Maggi Warren led us wonderfully in a varied programme ranging from Bernstein/Sondheim to Mozart, dipping in to Novello, Puccini, Gershwin and Gilbert and Sullivan to name but a few. We were very fortunate to have our Director of NNCO, Stephen Miles come and join us for four wonderful pieces to make it a full and exciting programme.

We are all looking forward to our next adventure when we step into the darkened streets and shady corners of The Threepenny Opera. Watch this space for more information…
