Well, it’s a busy week coming up. Tomorrow (Monday), we have our “get-in” at St Margaret’s Church, Cley from 11 am, when we’ll have our first glimpse of Crispin Clark’s set for our production of The Coronation of Poppea. I’m sure it’ll be splendid as I was very impressed with his set for The Marriage of Figaro, back in 2019. We then have a music-only rehearsal with the orchestra at 7 pm the same evening, a technical rehearsal on Tuesday evening, and finally, the dress rehearsal on Wednesday. We then have our three performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 12th – 14th of May. Tickets are still available at Booking with Eventbrite | North Norfolk Chamber Opera and are also available at the door. We look forward to seeing you there.
I was at the East Norfolk Operatic Society’s production of The Pirates of Penzance last week. NNCO regular Sam Ellis (Hawkins) was cast as Kate, and two former NNCO principals were also in the cast, Ros Swetman (Wright) as Ruth and Clifford De Spenser as the Pirate King; an enjoyable and well-sung performance. Having sung the Pirate King myself with East Norfolk Gilbert & Sullivan Society in February it was interesting to compare our two approaches to the role.
News of another NNCO member too. Andy Masterson, who has sung Papageno in The Magic Flute and Pluto in Orpheus in the Underworld for us in recent times, has been cast in the title role of Peterborough Opera’s production of Verdi’s Nabucco, which takes place between 26th and 29th October this year. Well done Andy! Full details from Peterborough Opera. Looks like a day out to Peterborough, looking around the cathedral in the afternoon, and attending a performance in the evening are on the cards.
That’s it for now, see you next week – Peter
