North Norfolk Chamber Opera is delighted to present Monteverdi’s 1642 opera The Coronation of Poppea.

Monteverdi composed his late masterpiece with church performance in mind. Reflecting his approach, our production will take place in St. Margaret’s Church, Cley-Next-the-Sea, NR25 7TT on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 12th, 13th and 14th May at 7pm. Its theme is the triumph of Love over Virtue, but in its wake lies banishment and suicide.

Our fully staged, fully costumed and acted production will be performed in the round, giving the audience an exciting and immersive theatrical experience. The audience is restricted to 75 per evening, so do please book early.

The performances will be sung in English, from Alan Curtis’s Edition (Novello & Co. Ltd.)

This will be the first time that this opera has been presented in Norfolk since the Sadler’s Wells Tour of 1974, and is therefore an opportunity not to be missed.
